Shea butter, also known as karité butter (from French, meaning “life”) is an aromatic fat extracted from the nuts of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa) from the family of Sapotaceae. The tree commonly grows in the dry area of the African savanna, ranging from Senegal to Ethiopia and grows up to 15 m in height.

Examples of the beneficial effects of Shea butter:

l  it is quickly absorbed, nourishing and regenerating the skin, leaving it with a protective lipid bilayer

l  improves the elasticity of the stratum corneum (“horny layer”) of the skin thanks to the substances it contains, protecting and enhancing the intercellular cement

l  the vitamins A and E it contains help to reduce the wrinkles caused i.a. by the dry epidermis

l  it is a natural UV filter

l  fills in the gaps and repairs damage in hair structure, helps in its regeneration, protects dry hair ends from the sun and salt water

l  eases the inflammation connected with osteoporosis

l  contains vitamin F that brings relief to tired, tense and aching muscles

l  anti-inflammatory and antibacterial
