Shea butter, also known as karité butter (from French, meaning “life”) is an aromatic fat extracted from the nuts of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa) from the family of Sapotaceae. The tree commonly grows in the dry area of the African savanna, ranging from Senegal to Ethiopia and grows up to 15 m in height.
